I'M IN UR LJ, QUOTING PLATO.

I feel like I've been horrible company the past few weeks.  I'm rudderless, and anchorless, and apparently I enjoy nautical metaphors.  But seriously, on the one hand I think it's unfair to just go dumping my shit on people, but on the other I know I shouldn't be so reluctant to ask for help.

Do you know who I identify with?  BRENDA CHENOWITH.  Umm, not that anyone else has seen Six Feet Under.

A couple of days ago I stayed up til 4 in the morning playing Pokémon Platinum.  I really, really wanted to beat Louis and his Heracross.  AND I DID BWAHAHA.

Anywho, after my spazzing out for the past few days, I've actually completed my part of the student finance application.  It was horrible, but I think I can repress the experience.  Ah, healthy, healthy defence mechanisms.

The Leavers' Ball is on Friday.  And I am sooo not one for getting all dressed up and that, but I think it will be okay.  I've been sat at the same table as Louis, which shows at least someone knows what they're doing.  We all know that I can't socialise without Louis.

I love that stage in a friendship where there is no effort in being together, where you can just talk rubbish for hours.  You know what to expect from eachother and ahh, it's just grand.

I've destroyed my feet.  First by wearing flats for a day that rubbed the back of my heel, making it impossible for me to wear shoes without swearing loudly with every step.  Then I made the mistake of wearing sandals in sweltering heat and have horrific blisters to show for it.  Then I decided going barefoot was the best solution.  It was, but now my feet are very, very dirty.  Oh, Christ.

On the positive side, I am reading Good Omens :D  and in Pokémon Platinum I am in Hearthome City which is a lovely lovely place.

This.

If not that, frankly I'm pretty easy to please. I'd like to go to the beach maybe, and take lots of photos, and for it to be sunny, and to eat good food, and to have a good laugh with my friends, and then see the stars clearly because we're away from city pollution, and then watch tv until late. Ooh and read a good book.

Good news: I HAVE FINISHED MY EXAMS. I'm now free from the oppression of further education! ♥ ♥ ♥

List 10 of your favorite characters from different fandoms, and ask people to spot patterns in your choices, and if they're so inclined, to draw conclusions about you based on the patterns they've spotted.

1. Hoban "Wash" Washburne - Firefly
2. Urahara Kisuke - Bleach
3. Toshiko Sato - Torchwood
4. Sohma Shigure - Fruits Basket
5. Remus Lupin - Harry Potter
6. Daidoji Tomoyo - Cardcaptor Sakura
7. Brian Griffin - Family Guy
8. Nick Andros - Stephen King's The Stand
9. Brenda Chenowith - Six Feet Under (okay I mainly included this one to trouble [info]geist_neko )
10. The Comedian - Watchmen

the fun thing is, my fandoms are so bizarrely varied that I can't think of many people who would know who everyone on this list is...
maybe I should add more to even the odds?

11. Siegfried Sassoon - Regeneration trilogy
12. Matthew - The Sandman comics
13. Howard Moon - The Mighty Boosh
14. Ejlert Loevborg - Ibsen's Hedda Gabler
15. Fai D Flourite - Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle

Did I already fangirl about Russell Howard's Tough Gig?  Basically the comedian Russell Howard went to Ireland to meet a bunch of hardcore surfers, and tried to befriend them and learn to surf, and then did a stand-up gig for them at the end.  The whole thing was adorkable.  And made me really miss the seaside.  His struggle to get into the wetsuit ("It's like climbing into a johnny") and subsequent complaints of feeling like a pervert were hilarious.  The fact that whenever the surfers did their hardcore manly stuff, he looked a little bemused and like a boy amongst men, made the whole thing that much more perfect.

WOO ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY OPEN DAYS :D  WOO STUDENT DISCOUNT.

It occured to me recently that I really, really like lady singers.  I don't know when that trend started, but most of the bands I listen to have female vocalists.  Well, I don't know about most of them, but certainly a sizeable proportion.  I decided the only thing that could be done was a PICSPAM.  So, below the cut, ladies I like who sing.
the f word, f for feminist! )

Well, even if this is of no interest to anyone else, I've been able to rewatch lots of fun music videos.  Yay!

I FEEL SICK.  I DON'T KNOW WHY BUT
D:

I had general studies today which meant I got to write an essay for about an hour on why we should have identity cards, because the French have them and they seem JUST FINE WITH IT.
I also had psychology which I suspect I bombed because instead of revising and finding out about parametric tests and Maslow's hierarchy of needs, I watched Full Metal Jacket last night.
I worked out I need 93 UMS to get an A in English now, which will mean nothing to you unless you're currently doing A levels.  Hey, it barely means anything to me, and it's my A level.  Suffice to say I only need to get 43% overall in my last two papers to have an A for the course.  AHAAAAAAHAAHAHAAAAA.  French is looking dicey, but Drama, General Studies, and possibly Psychology are all in the bag.  IN THE BAG.

My friends broke a tree today, and it made the park-cleaning guy, who looked a little bit like NPH but not really, sad.

Do you know who is going to be on my television tomorrow, surfing and doing a stand-up gig?  That's right, MISTER RUSSELL HOWARDS.

In Edinburgh I'm going to see Frank Skinner, Ivan Brackenbury, Jason Byrne, Rhod Gilbert and Sean Hughes.  B-but I want to see Neil Gaiman.

I STILL FEEL SICK.

Today was the first time I was able to vote in an election.  AND I DIDN'T GET TO VOTE.  I AM NOT PLEASED ABOUT THIS.
I just couldn't get to a polling station.  I'm not pleased.
I also missed the Big Brother launch show (I know, I know.  I can't help myself, please don't judge me too harshly.)

On the positive side:
General Studies (culture, morality & ethics and science, maths & technology) was the dossiest doss that ever dossed.  Each paper had an essay question at the end.  I wrote about contemporary fiction vs classic fiction (though I really wanted to write about the role of atheism in a modern world), and how Web 2.0 led to social networking.  In those essays I mentioned:  Doctor Horrible and Captain Hammer, Neil Gaiman (twice), Watchmen, Grute getting a car, Twilight, Stephen King's The Stand, LJ's 10th birthday, the lower sixth moaning about studying Tess of the D'Urbervilles, and the terrifying amount of time I spend on Facebook.  I just don't take General Studies seriously, so I write about what I want to write about, and generally do very well.  ahaha.

The French Reading and Listening paper was less...  well, slightly less fun, but I really enjoyed it in a perverse way.  The sources were genuinely interesting and the translation was easy, so hopefully I've done okay on that.

The first rehearsal for the Edinburgh play is tomorrow.  I am excited.

Grute: "Honestly, Christine.  This car is rusty and Christine isn't.  And Christine has better curves."

I love and cherish all of my friends, really I do.

Okay my first exam is on Thursday and I have not really done any work whatsoever towards it.  I haven't even finished the practice paper.  That said, it is the French reading and listening paper.  All I need to do is to learn to speak French.  I think it should be okay.

I finished rereading The Stand!
tl;dr IT'S AWESOME. Spoilers below. )

At some point I will read The Dark Tower series.  It's just very daunting in its length, but a lot of people rave about it so it's worth a go.

Hello.
Nothing important is really happening at the moment, because study leave is dead time.
Today Louis, Clare and I played with sea creature finger puppets (as you do, obviously). Mr Blue Octopus and Mr Green Octopus were having a steamy love affair, whilst serving as henchmen for my violent orange whale, Chris. Chris did unspeakable things to all of the other sea creatures. The idea that perhaps our finger puppets were serving as representations of our repressed urges had a lot of truth to it, I think. Louis' seahorse was an innocent young girl. Who eloped with Chris.
To my delight, we were given a free copy of Eternal Light at choir today, so I don't have to shell out for the CD. It's gorgeous, although some of it is so difficult it is perverse. The litany would make me cry (because it's moving, not because it is difficult) if I had functional tear ducts. Here it is on Megaupload if you're into that sort of thing. If you'd like to hear any of the rest of it, just ask.
My first exam is in a week today. I haven't revised at all. I should get on that. Probably.
Aha, I am currently struggling against the urge to tell someone something reaaaaaally bitchy. Well, no, it's more that one person has been EXTREMELY hypocritical, and I want to expose them. I won't do it. But it really grinds my gears. Maybe the fee's too pricey for them to realise your disguise is slipping.

I've been asked what the wooooo Nathan Fillion love is all about. To explain it, I will post THIS VIDEO.
(I want to post some Firefly/Buffy too but am too lazy to dig it up on youtube.)

This video is pretty much the moment I fell in love with him.  I still want to do a post just of me FLAILING over Dr Horrible's Singalong Blog.  But I probably won't.  Neil Patrick Harris blows me away every time I listen to the soundtrack, though.
I am sure [info]drkuchikineko still won't see the appeal.  But... ah well.

Choir was lovely today. We started Handel's Messiah, which shockingly enough I've never sung. I like Handel, though. I didn't realise how much I missed all the runs you find in Handel until we sang the choruses today.
We also started Howard Goodall's Eternal Light requiem, which is sappy but gorgeous. I'm sure Steven, our musical director, hates it. jhaskjhjkd I love Steven. ♥

I am also trying to fix Pokémon Yellow for [info]geist_neko but she doesn't even have Squirtle.  WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE.  So I'm going to go get her a Squirtle.

Louis read my journal to find every mention of his name.  He was saddened by how much I abuse him.  It is because I love him.  I will write him a letter of appreciation to make him feel better.  Maybe.

I was outside at ten o clock at night, in short sleeves today.  This is the sign that summer is coming.
